Welcome
to the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology website. Our members
are the most highly trained and skilled eye care professionals
in the state. We treat medical and surgical diseases of the eye
as well as perform routine eye exams. Many members dispense eyeglasses
and contact lenses.
An ophthalmologist
is a specialist physician who has attended either Medical School
or Osteopathic School, completed at least one year of general
medical or surgical training and then studied at an accredited
ophthalmology residency program for at least three additional
years. Some of our members have completed additional sub-specialty
training in areas such as cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatrics,
oculoplastics and neuro-ophthalmology.
Most of our
members have been Board Certified in Ophthalmology by the American
Academy of Ophthalmology.
The
New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology (NJAO) is the largest organization
of ophthalmologists in the state. We are dedicated to promoting
the specialty of ophthalmology. We offer educational programs
and benefits for our members and their employees. We sponsor community
awareness projects to encourage eye health. We make recommendations
to other physician groups, hospitals, government agencies and
third party payers concerning ocular health and healthcare policy.
